Welcome to Norton Hive Library and Community Hub

Everyone is welcome at The Norton Hive, where members can enjoy fiction and non-fiction books (including large print editions), and books for the very young, juniors and teens.

Audio books can be borrowed for a small fee.

We also have:

  • public access computers (first 60 minutes free)
  • printing, scanning and photocopying in A4 & A3, both Colour & B & W (small per copy fee is charged).
  • A Home Library Service which will deliver books to your door if you cannot easily access your local or carry your books
  • internet and computer access, and IT help and advice
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Community and health information

Activities at The Norton Hive

On alternate Saturdays we have The Busy Bee Craft Club (See What's On pages for details).

Storytime is on every Thursday morning from 10:30am to 11:30am, along with Knit and Natter which meets on Thursday mornings between 10.30am and 12 noon.

You can join us at Spinning Group on the last Tuesday in the month at 10am.

The Book Club meets in the Derwent Room at Norton Hive Library on the first Tuesday in the month at 2.30pm.

Opening Hours

Monday: Closed
Tuesday: 10am – 4pm
Wednesday: 10am – 4pm
Thursday: 10am – 4pm
Friday: Closed
Saturday: 10am – 1pm
We do not open on Sundays or on Bank Holidays.

If the library is closed, you are able to renew a book loan online at https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/browse-reserve-and-renew-items

Parking

For Library members’ use, there is a private car park behind the library, including designated disabled bays.  These are limited to 3 hours and are controlled by entering your car registration number on the terminal
inside the library. If you do not enter your registration a fine will be issued by the car park owners.

Accessibility

The library has three steps with handrails.
Wheelchair users have access via a ramp.
Internally, the library is on the ground floor with no steps.
We have a disabled Toilet with Baby Changing Facilities.

Norton Hive latest visitor figures

1,983 customers visited the library in September with 11,474 visiting the library since April. As a summary our book issues for 2022/23 were 21,000, slightly more than Derwent Valley Bridge, Eastfield and Kirkbymoorside. Twice as many as Helmsley. Hire a room

We have two rooms for hire at Norton Hive.

The main library may be used for a variety of events on most evenings and sometimes during the day (Monday and Friday) when the library is closed.

The Derwent room is available during the day from 10.00 – 16.00 and is a light and airy area.

The building which now houses Norton Hive Library and Community Hub began life as a primary school, and has evolved into a volunteer-run library, community hub and community garden.
